We Won’t Pay was formed in early 2014 to offer a clear position of non payment as the key weapon in defeating the Water Charges. Most people who are active in the movement will already be convinced not to pay. We think that has to be organised. We Won’t Pay campaign groups and others campaigns who agree will be going door to door, organising street activities and street meetings over the next few months to convince as many as possible to join us in the boycott.

A recent poll showed that although 30% of people were already convinced not to pay the Water Charges, up to 24% were as yet undecided. The majority of those will be looking for any reason not to pay this odious austerity tax.

The Water Charges represent the latest instalment of organised robbery of ordinary working class people to line the pockets of the already rich. The only message they will hear is a massive boycott to ruin Irish Water and sink the Government. January is over and the deadline for registering with Irish Water has passed. The Government are intent on waiting the opposition out and establishing Water Charges as a fact on the ground, in spite of the mass protests. Last year, mass protests and community organisation shook the Government and forced concessions, this year the key weapon we have is organised mass non payment. If a majority refuse to pay the first bills in April or the second bills in July, then we can finish off Irish Water and the Government. Read more..
